Arnica (Mountain Tabacco) is a perennial plant with a rhizome running horizontally in the soil.
A tough herbaceous stem that can reach 50 cm in height. It grows from the middle of a rosette of leaves that fits tightly to the ground. The stem is pubescent and bears 1-2 pairs of small leaves and one apical inflorescence, under which in the axils of the upper leaves there is most often one more underdeveloped inflorescence.
The yellow inflorescences are surrounded by a two-row involucre with short fleecy pubescence. The marginal flowers have 3 cloves - this is an important distinguishing feature when analyzing a pharmaceutical product.
Reproduction: by seeds and cuttings of rhizomes. It is better to grow through seedlings.
1.0 g = 920 seeds.
Seeds germinate at +20°C; if seedlings do not appear within 2-4 weeks, then the crops are kept for another 2-4 weeks at a temperature of -4+4°C, and then brought back into the heat. Sections of rhizomes are planted in holes to a depth of 5–6 cm.
Use: very ornamental plant, decoration of fragrant and medicinal gardens.
Parts used: inflorescences-baskets.
Pharmacy name: Arnica flowers - Arniсae flos (formerly: Flores Arnicae).
